So last night I turned one huge bouquet of peonies into 6 decent arrangements, four of which are really springing life up around my eternally cold apartment:
Then I woke up and found myself running a million errands all over a very beautiful Manhattan day. By mid-afternoon, I realized I was standing in Jason Wu’s showroom, making eye contact and laughing at a tiny little joke he made.
Later, I skipped (okay, maybe I leaped) toward bottles of chilled Barboursville Viognier (and free Octagon!) and oohed and aahed at all the “Virginia is for Lovers” paraphernalia in the Trump atrium. And I was way too distracted by Virginian oysters and scallops and beef and charcuterie to appreciate that VA Governor Bob McDonnell was introducing Donald and Eric Trump to speak:
Am I the only Virginian who didn’t know Trump bought Kluge? At least VA is still only one of three American states ranking in Top Ten Vineyards in the (entire) World. Booyah.
Then I ran into an old ex boyfriend and completely avoided eye contact … Too many men for one day!
Had no idea that the Lena Dunham that Miss Monika was taking me to see at BAM is the same Lena Dunham behind the upcoming HBO series I’m so stoked on debuting. Also had no idea that the Nora Ephron I was going to see is the same Nora Ephron that directed “Julie and Julia.” Neither of us knew Gabby Hoffmann would also be there, and both of us adored the screening of Ephron’s directorial debut “This is Me” (1992) and the Q&A that unfolded directly in front of our front-row-seated asses thereafter. Sooooo New York.

So I should thank New America for last night. It was a good one.
I ran into our creative director on my way into the building, who helped me carry a decently heavy box of magazines up to the New America space before taking me and my buddies to his office in the same building for a quick tour.
He has every single issue of Vogue ever published. This knocked the socks off Lauren, who had to relive the September 2006 Marie Antoinette issue. He has a slew of other cool publications, too, which makes for cute shelves over his desk:
When we returned to New America for a glass of wine with the girls before the Q&A started, I made Jonathan (Adler) and Deborah pose for a photo to send to my mom before their talk:
This tickled Mom, who was watching TV when I told her I was finally meeting Jonathan. Seconds after hearing his name, the ad for a new Jonathan Adler-designed Cottonelle toilet paper cover flashed across Mom’s TV screen. And of course hearing about this only embarrassed Jonathan, whose humility and self awareness couldn’t handle hearing that my mom in VA saw his name on any toilet paper-related anything.
The highlight was seeing Ginny. When NY brings me together with people I miss, like Yuki at her charity networking event the other night and even Jacob’s mother Lois last night, it makes up for being so far from home (though I still really miss VA and my little dog Bella).
Oh and yes, of course, Deborah and JA were as charming as ever during their discussion of Decorating for the 99%. Jonathan compared some huge relief/excitement to “seeing your ex boyfriend again and realizing he got fat.” I die.

Dear all former “Sister Sister” fans,
I brushed elbows with Tia Mowry backstage at a taping of Nate Berkus this afternoon (Deborah was on the show, too), and I am here to tell you that she is even more beautiful in real life. And adorable. And funny. And personable.
As for Nate, who knows. I didn’t see him off camera. But I did try to steal his black car, which is a big No No as far as his driver is concerned.
Me: “Who are you waiting for?”
Russian Driver: “Nate Berkus.”
Me: “Right, like someone from the show? Did Spencer schedule you? Are you waiting for Alainna or Debo-”
Russian Driver: “Nate! Berkus! The man! Not for you!”
Me: “Oh, right …. Psych!” (runs away)
What a day. I will say that it filled me with happiness to see a few dozen Today Show fans gathered around Hoda and Kathie Lee this morning in Rock Center. I don’t know if I felt a sense of pride for living in New York or a sense of appreciation for people shameless enough to gather around the corner of an NBC building with a few onlooking and armed security guards (I personally love Today more than anything on television); but whatever it was, it set the tone for a happy day despite my congestion and headaches. Gotta love the big apple.

I remember first hearing about The Box when I was a summer PR intern at Nicole Miller ages ago. Someone told me that I should go see the “midgets and naked ladies dancing over the bar.” The exploitation of little people didn’t sound like amazing fun to me, so I never went. Until last night. And boy am I glad I did.
I’m the magazine’s beauty editor, which is funny, so I took Ivy to the VBeaute launch event at The Box. And we really enjoyed this vixen dancing on a hula hoop dangling above the bar:
We also enjoyed the sexy collage of fishnet-covered legs and bare bums along the boxes (can you see it?):
Or maybe all you saw in that last photo was Sean Paul … Because he was there! And it was awesome. It took me right back to Cabo 2006. Everyone else was too old to put their hands in the air or sing along.
Ivy and I let some cutie pie take our photo for no reason (I was the only midget there, so I guess I was a mild attraction of sorts):
And this funny outtake is the highlight. Some guy in the box next to us had his hand dangling over the edge, and this happened:
Happy Sunday!

So I’ve been involved in a lot of professional photography lately, which only really happens to little people like me in New York. First, we have the photo of my aforementioned coconut cake by the loveliest photographer I know – Martin Ramin – which will be in the Off Duty section of the WSJ paper this weekend:
And then I met the equally-lovely Andy French, who photographed me while scouting for photos of Deborah. And he sent me a whole lot of photos of myself, haha:
Obviously missing: hair and makeup! Gah. I hope you’re laughing at these photos of me. I post them not in earnest. Back to my work project, which I’ll share later …
